Cisco Jabber (click-to-IM / click-to-call)

Updated: August 2026
Audience: Team admins (enablement) and users with Cisco Jabber installed.

Sprache / Language: Deutsch

What is this?

If your organization still uses Cisco Jabber (CUCM / IM and Presence), Sparks can open the local Jabber client from People / Contacts — for chat or a call.

This is not Cisco chat inside Sparks and not a Matrix↔Jabber bridge. Message and call history stay in Jabber; Sparks only launches the matching deep link.

Prerequisites

RequirementDetails
Org settingA team admin enabled Cisco Jabber under Account → Team → Services for your team
Jabber desktopCisco Jabber is installed and signed in on the device
OS handlersWindows/macOS route im: / ciscotel: / sip: to Jabber (typical once Jabber is installed)
Contact dataJabber ID (user@domain) and/or phone number or SIP URI on the contact

If Jabber is missing, Sparks shows a short hint and does not fall back to a Matrix DM.

For team admins: enable

Where: AccountTeamServices for your teamCisco Jabber.

OptionMeaning
Enable Jabber deep linksShows “Chat / Call in Cisco Jabber” actions in Sparks (default: off)
Start calls with ciscotel:Jabber call action uses ciscotel: instead of tel: (recommended when Jabber should handle the call)
IM domainOptional; only with the heuristic: builds a JID from email local-part + this domain
Derive Jabber JID from emailDefault off; enable only if your IM domain matches the mail local-part

For users: start chat or call

  1. Open People (/contacts) in Sparks.
  2. Select a contact → context menu () or hover actions.
  3. Choose Chat in Cisco Jabber or Call in Cisco Jabber.
  4. The installed Jabber client opens with the peer or places the call.

Jabber ID and SIP on a contact

When creating or editing a Sparks contact (with deep links enabled), you can set:

  • Cisco Jabber ID — e.g. user@imp.example.com
  • SIP URI — e.g. sip:user@cucm.example.com

Phone numbers on the contact also work for the Jabber call action. Plain clicks on a number still use the system dialer (tel:).

What Sparks deliberately does not do

  • No embedded Jabber chat and no shared history with Matrix
  • No Cisco → Sparks presence sync
  • No group-chat interop with Jabber
  • No replacement for SIP dial-in / room systems (separate telephony topic)
