Dialog: Advanced Search
How to Open
- Ctrl+K (Windows/Linux) or Cmd+K (macOS)
- Or open search in top toolbar → select "Advanced Search"
Filters
| Filter | Description | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Date | Date range (From … To …) | Searches only messages in this period |
| Sender | Specific user | Dropdown with room participants |
| Room | Search within one room only | Dropdown with your rooms |
| File Type | Only images, documents, videos, audio | Restricts to attachments |
Workflow
- Enter search term in the search field
- Optionally: Apply filters (date, sender, room, file type)
- Click "Search" or press Enter
- Results appear below with message previews
- Click a result → jump to message in room
Tips
- Combine filters for precise results
- "Reset Filters" clears all filters
- Encrypted rooms: Search requires key backup; otherwise encrypted messages cannot be searched
- Matrix Search API: Full-text search within rooms
Limitations
- Search runs on Matrix server; large rooms may take longer
- In E2EE rooms: Key backup must be set up
